Your mediation day, hour by hour.

Knowing what's coming makes it easier. Here's how a typical workplace mediation day runs, and how to prepare.

On the day

A typical schedule

Times are flexible. You can ask for a break whenever you need one.

What to bring

  • Your notes or timeline
  • Water and anything that helps you feel comfortable
  • Your support person, if you've chosen one
  • An open mind about options
9:00 am

Arrive & settle

Separate waiting rooms. Your mediator checks in with you privately.

9:30 am

Opening

The mediator explains ground rules. Each person shares their perspective without interruption.

10:30 am

Mapping the issues

Together you agree the list of issues to work through.

11:30 am

Private sessions

Time alone with the mediator to reflect and test ideas.

12:30 pm

Lunch

A proper break, in separate spaces if you prefer.

1:30 pm

Options & negotiation

Working through issues one by one to find solutions.

3:30 pm

Agreement drafting

Commitments written in your own words and reviewed privately.

4:30 pm

Close

Sign the agreement, set a review date and debrief.
